it’s all about the questions we ask…
i have been a student for a long time. and i love being a student. in short, i have…
* done a year of music school (my first brush with university life – the audition process changed my life, but that is another post)
* done a year of nursing school (worked at same time in ICU)
* a master’s in linguistics (so to speak)
* two years into my phd in linguistics/CMC
so, really, i have studied quite a few subjects and been a student for, well, most of my life… and all this time i thought that the point of being a student…the point of research and study was coming to the right answer…
i was wrong.
it has been such an experience to realize that it is not at all the answer that is important, rather the questions you ask. in the last few weeks i have made great strides in my thesis work. not because i suddenly figured it all out… but because i have changed my concept of ‘THE STUDENT’. i am not after getting the right answer anymore. i am no longer reaching for the shiny gold star and the pat on the head… what is interesting, what is worth the time and passion that research requires is coming to the right question. after that, the answers are just waiting to be found :-)
