At this point I am thinking of the original creator of this site and the many years she spent creating, informing and just laying her life out in words for all that cared to read. Interesting lady, mother and teacher/pupil. You see, she was not just an ordinary woman, she was a master juggler, a mother of 2, a teacher of many. Working on her doctorate in a foreign country while managing the many residence they moved in search of that one she could call Home. I am sure that she would criticize my writing skills to the nth degree but hopefully she will be happy that others are still enjoying her contributions.
Her Notes on Weblogs: (currently referred to as “Blogs”) Weblogs are much more than small pieces, loosely joined (David Weinberger). Two schools of thought seem to be emerging from both popular and academic research in weblog community. One group proposes that the blogosphere is ‘partially interconnected and sporadically conversational’ (Herring, et al.) while the other puts forth that weblogs are topically related communities which converse often (Hendrick, Efimova, Marlow). My own research focuses on how these communities are formed, as well as how they communicate in dispersive environments. Links are often singularly studied as a form of conversation in weblog communities. I believe that it is necessary to go beyond the link, into the language itself, and examine elements of discourse such as those proposed by theories of mental spaces, frames, and cognitive and cultural models. Currently, my research focus on the application of mental/cognitive spaces in distributed discourse. personally, i am interested in in the process of finding out and formulating why. i am an active 28 year old single mother of incomparable twins. when i am not busy being a mother, student, teacher… i can be found either reading or playing outside. in the spirit of the great ee cummings, i have decided to do away with capital letters in this blog. his use of the small i for personal reference represents, according to Richard S. Kennedy, a person without power, who stands away from the crowd, yet is able to open his heart with song or mock the follies of society and denounce the pretensions of authority. i believe this to be a nice representation of the blogging community
Her personal motto: “Be not the slave of your own past plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep, and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience, that shall explain and overlook the old.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
